2022 was an excellent year for the gaming industry despite the scars of the global pandemic. Some of the best video games were released. Here we look at the ten best video games of the year.   

Elden Ring 

The game, with its fantasy storyline, monster designs, and soul-like experience, is a masterpiece. However, it is not for the faint-hearted. It won two awards for the most anticipated video game and befittingly won the 2022 game of the year award.    

God of War Ragnarök

This was the latest entry from the PlayStation God of war series franchisee, exceeding gamers’ expectations. The game is fast-paced, with combat that engages in a flawlessly executed storyline. 

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Since the nineties, Kirby, synonymous with Nintendo, brought back the mascot in 3D. The Kirby franchise, known to be on the east side, features more challenging fights and intuitive levels, making it engaging for adult players. 

Splatoon 3 

Splatoon is one of the newest games on the Nintendo platform, and it sold more than 7 million copies in the first three months and was considered one of the best games in 2022. The game is fun and addictive. The game is stripped of violence, fast-paced, and engaging for all age groups. 

Stray

The game action-adventure puzzle game. It explores the mystery of a world that is post-apocalyptic. The theme is about loss and destruction, with the adventure taking about 10 hours to complete. Once you start, the urge to bring the entire game in one go is strong. 

Horizon Forbidden West 

This game was a masterpiece to come out in 2022, and the game offers more than the first version in this franchisee. The protagonist continues the war against the deranged machines that caused havoc in the world. The combat is smooth, the machines are bigger and more dangerous, and the story is incredible.

Cult of the Lamb

This indie title perfectly shows how brilliant games can compete against big budgets and the biggest developers. The game is a combination management sim game that is also roguelike from Developers, Massive Monster, and it is a unique adventure that strange but fun. 

Ghostwire: Tokyo

This first-person combat with background from Japanese mythology and culture is more magical and stylized than the typical FPS games. The player can harness multiple attacks and quickly work out the spirits plaguing the once densely populated city. The combat has an artistic flare which makes it unique. 

Pokémon Scarlet and violet 

For Pokémon fans, this title swept the world with its pocket monster. Despite the frame rate and graphical issues, the games sold record numbers. It is the first open-world Pokémon game and is expected to improve only from the ongoing patches and updates. 

A Plague Tale: Requiem

The game diverts from aggressive actions and offers a more stealthy approach to the adventure. It takes place in 14th-century France, where the main character makes her way through plague rats and guards who want to kill her and her brother. The story is harrowing but brilliant.
